Blackwelsh sheep

Over 100 years ago Welsh Flockmasters began selecting black lambs with longer, finer black fleece from the Welsh Mountain Breed and carefully bred them to produce a pure and distinctive breed.

Black Welsh have an all-black fleece, stand 20-22" in height and must not have docked tails. Rams have strong, well curved horns and ewes are polled. Black Welsh carry a dominant black gene. (When bred within breed the lamb is always black and even when crossed with another breed the lamb is almost always black).
